Gene and Betty Sullivan put flags on Veterans graves Monday afternoon.

In a show of honor and respect Gene and Betty Sullivan placed 58 flags on the graves of veterans Monday.
The Sullivans have been doing so for the last 30 years in remembrance of those who courageously served our county.
If you look across the First Baptist Church Cemetery in Centerville, you will see several four-foot silver poles with American flags poking out of the top.
Gene said he learned a long time ago to never let the flag touch the ground. So he engineered a unique way to post the flags.
“I am proud of this country, and I know these veterans would be thankful someone is flying a flag over their graves,” Gene said.
A veteran himself, Gene knows the sacrifices made to serve this country.
“I was lucky. I came home to my family, but I had friends that didn’t,” Gene said.
