Run-off early voting begins

Local primary turnout low

By CHARLOTTE PERKINS Journal Staff Writer Despite the pressing problems faced by the state, only 12,050 of Houston County’s registered voters turned out for Tuesday’s primary election to take part in choosing the next governor. The turnout was 16.3 percent countywide, ranging from 24.5 percent in the Miller Elementary School precinct to 10.03 percent in the Warner Robins Recreation precinct. Perry voters came in a little above the county average with 19.84 percent and 18.42 percent at the two precincts voting at Rozar Park.

Who’s running in the August 10 Georgia run-off election

By CHARLOTTE PERKINS Journal Staff Writer Tuesday’s election results settled most contests, but several remain to be resolved in the run-off election on August 10, because no candidate in those races received over 50 percent of the vote. Voters in both parties have choices to make, and the run-off between Helen Hughes and Randall Hinson in the Post Five Board of Education special election will be on both the Republican and the Democratic ballot.

Norma Jean Loggins, of Lakewood, Colorado, died in her home unexpectedly at the age of 81 on July 9, 2010. She was a retired civil service employee with the U.S. Air Force, a writer and most recently published “Faith-It’s Tough but It’s worth it.” She was featured poet of the month for the Lakewood Arts Council. She loved God, family and country.

Wayne H. Roughton, 51, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 26, 2010.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 1 at Southside Baptist Church in Warner Robins with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Perry. Reverend Charlie Bibb will officiate. Wayne, a lifelong resident of Houston County, was the son of the late William C. Roughton.
A 1977 graduate of Westfield Schools, he also received a Business Administration Degree from University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Wayne loved his family and was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Robin Sandefur Roughton; children, Chad A. Roughton and Lori Roughton; mother, Naomi Roughton Bowles ( William B.); brothers, Kim Roughton and Keith Roughton (Brenda).
