Houston County Deputies recently qualified with their duty weapons to ensure their skill level was top notch.
Houston County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kevin Harper said everyone who works for the Sheriff’s Office and carries a weapon is required to qualify twice a year.
The deputies went to the Warner Robins Police Department shooting range all week to qualify with their weapons.
Harper, a certified firearms instructor, and Lt. Mike Stokes led the weeklong training.
Deputies received classroom instruction before going to the range to shoot.
Harper said each officer must perform specific exercises at different distances with their weapon in order to qualify.
The deputies are then scored on the number of center mass shots on their target after the shooting exercise is performed.
The deputy’s name and the weapons serial number are recorded once they complete qualification.
